    I went back and re-installed from scratch and didn't upgrade to Edgy afterwards. However, I would dearly love to get her to Edgy just so she can use FF2.

    So, if I upgrade her to Edgy... should I download some of this information first? When it breaks I won't have any access to the internet via her machine again.

    BTW, I really appreciate all the help folks are providing in these forums.

    If it doesn't work you can change it back but I'm thinking its going to work.

    Any other thoughts of what i can try ?

    I don't know if anybody is having this same problem, but just in case. When I finished up, I wanted to do it all with the command line, so I didn't install network-manager-gnome. I found that an iwlist scan would return results, but I couldn't associate. I had to run the following command to get it to connect to my AP. (I used wep, but if I remember correctly, it does the same thing without encryption)

    sudo iwconfig wlan0 key open

    Note: if a key was entered before this, it still remains in tact. This just changes "Security Mode" from 'restricted' to 'open'

    Re: Broadcom 4306 With Ndiswrapper 54 Mbps

    Dear forum,

    Yet another Broadcom 4306/ndiswrapper issue I'm afraid.

    I followed the how-to found here - http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...p/Installation - everything went well up until this step:

    If this does not bring up the lights on the card, try ejecting it and re-inserting it.

    If the system has a card that works with one of the loaded drivers, you should see the following message in the system log

    wlan0: ndiswrapper ethernet device xxxxxxx
    dmesg shows "ndiswrapper version 1.22 loaded" but I do not see "ndiswrapper ethernet device xxx..." The instructions say to try ejecting and re-inserting the card, but I really doubt that's the issue as the card has been working as-is in Windows for two years up until a few days ago when I wiped...

    I followed that how-to closely, except I am running Edgy so I installed by doing apt-get install ndiswrapper-utils-1.8.

    Here is the output of iwconfig:

    Code:
    lo        no wireless extensions.

    eth0      no wireless extensions.

    eth1      IEEE 802.11b/g  ESSID:""  Nickname:"Broadcom 4306"
             Mode:Managed  Access Point: Invalid
             RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
             Encryption key:off
             Link Quality:0  Signal level:0  Noise level:0
             Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
             Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

    sit0      no wireless extensions.
    And here is the output of iwlist scan:

    Code:
    lo        Interface doesn't support scanning.

    eth0      Interface doesn't support scanning.

    eth1 Interface doesn't support scanning : No such device

    sit0      Interface doesn't support scanning.
    My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5160, and the wireless card model number is 1350 (physically looked at it). lspci shows that the chipset is BCM4306 and rev 03. I tried the drivers for the following two cards found in the list - http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...index.php/List

    # Laptop: Dell Inspiron 5100 Card: Wireless 1350 (802.11b/g) WLAN miniPCI Card
    * Chipset: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02) _notice this is revision 02, below is revision 03, Idon't know if it matters or not_
    * pciid: 14e4:4320
    * Driver: http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R90501.EXE
    * Other: This card is in the miniPCI slot of the Inspiron 5100. The driver below (R83097.exe) did not work, but this one did. To install unzip (program "unzip" works on the .exe) the exe file and use bcmwl5.inf.

    # Laptop: Dell Inspiron 5150 Card: Wireless 1350 (802.11b/g) WLAN miniPCI Card
    * Chipset: Broadcom Corporation BCM#4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)
    * pciid: ?
    * Driver: ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R83097.EXE
    * Other: This card is in the miniPCI slot of the Inspiron 5150. This driver is for US only. I think this is a Truemobile 1350. To install unzip (program "unzip" works on the .exe) the exe file and use the bcmwl5a.inf in directory AR.
    The second one seems like the best match. It has two directories, each containing bcmwl5.inf and bcmwl5a.inf. The two directories are called AR and IR. I tried all four of these .inf files. I also tried the two for the first card. I got the same results for all six cases.

    As I'm sure some of you know, this is a frustrating experience. I just don't know what to do. I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone could offer.

    Thank you!

    you installed by doing apt-get install ndiswrapper-utils-1.8?

    but doesn't that mean that you have an internet connection?

    Sometimes your card needs to be turned on to work, this can be done two ways

    Going into your bios and see if there is a setting for it.

    Turn on the card via Windows and boot back into linux

    it would also be helpful if you posted:

    Code:
     dmesg | grep ndis
