Unexpected logout / x.org segfault when using Gimp, always reproducible

Hello everyone...

I am experiencing a rather weird problem I have never encountered before. While using Gimp, the system will abruptly log out.

For example: Open Gimp > New File > select bucket tool (or any tool) > (click) on the new image with tool... then, BOOM! The system logs out.

I am using Precise 12.04, and I have a Thinkpad T420s. The only logs that have any information about the abrupt logout are what I found in:

This error is always reproducible, I log back in open gimp, use a tool, BAM! logout again...!?

Can anyone help me capture more error information so that it can be attached to this thread?

Maybe it could be a bug? Any help from the community is greatly appreciated since I need to use Gimp to make a meager living...

Maybe update to 2.8; it's in the repositories. It's a bit different, but better.

I have a similar problem with my Dell Inspiron 14R 5420 when I try to crop my images.

I will try gimp-2.8 to post the result here. Thank you!

I have the same problem on my Dell Inspiron N5110, using Ubuntu 12.04.

I used Gimp three or four days ago, then nothing was wrong with it, I have not changed anything on my system since then, I have not installed a single program.

Maybe Gimp got a bad update in the past week? Anyone knows anything?

I installed gimp 2.8 from ppa

tto-kesselgulasch/gimp
The problem was gone!!!

Gimp 2.8 seems to be working fine. I guess this is the solution then.
