Exclamation Wireless does not work when dual boot

This is weird. This happened twice already.

1.i have Windows 7 on first primary partition, working just fine.
2.ran ubuntu minimal for a dual boot; and it properly detects my wireless card and router in the house, finalizes install with no problems.
3.at the end of ubuntu minimal installer it asks what else to install and i scroll down to install Xubuntu desktop environment
    4.installation goes fine
5.reboot laptop, XFCE comes up, I log in and all that and configured my hidden wireless network but it does not connect. It does NOT see any wireless around.
6.booting into Windows from the grub menu works fine and everything is fine
7.if i run the live cd for ubuntu or xubuntu they both detect and connect to wireless network.

This is weird. I rebooted a couple times and switched desktop environment at login from xfce to xubuntu just to see if there's a difference but no dice.

I tried going into the settings to disable/enable wireless, no difference. It won't pick up any wireless network, like if the card has something wrong, and yes the wireless switch is ON.

    Any takers?
