    12.04 Problems with sound, shutdown, and minimization

    I just upgraded to 12.04 from 11.10 and I've run into a few interesting problems.

    1) My sound no longer works.

    I've run the tests and nothing comes out of the speakers or headphones. I'm not sure if a necessary library is missing or if my hardware just isn't compatible.

    2) Shutdown no longer works.

    Effectively, selecting shutdown only logs you off of the computer and lands you back at the login screen. I'm not sure what the reason is for this, but restart works just fine. I've gotten around this by doing the following in a terminal, but I really shouldn't have to do this:

    % sudo shutdown -h now

    3) Menu bar no longer hides.

    You could maximize your application and the application tool bar would disappear in 11.10. This does not seem to be the fact in 12.04. As a laptop user, this toolbar is taking up valuable real estate and presenting little value.

    I'm not sure how to fix any of these, but help is appreaciated.

    My system information is as follows:

    Re: 12.04 Problems with sound, shutdown, and minimization

    My experience with upgrades (for others and for future):
    - there are 2 ubuntu installations on 2 computers;
    - weak computer gets upgrade;
    - if upgrade poor - I don't upgrade my main computer.

    Tasks to do before upgrades:
    - save your files and settings.

    Upgrade poor:
    - leaving notes for ubuntu users (like you did);
    - going back to my previous system.

    I hope you will get better help soon.
