GNOME: more compact, screen real estate, less padding

    Hello,

I'd like to know if anyone could recommend a way to make GNOME 3 look more compact. When I compare GNOME 3 to Windows, I can fit less on the same screen when using the same resolution. Using Google, I have found that this is because of the excessive use of padding in GNOME 3.

I have not yet found a way to effectively make GNOME 3 more compact, perhaps somebody can recommend a compact theme?

    Thank you.

can you post a screen shot of what you are taling about? I find that gnome3 (at least gnome-shell) takes up muc less space then windows.
Also are you refering to gnome-shell or unity? Lastly what theme are you using?

Instead of mucking around with gnome tweak tool, try the lxde window manager. May solve your issue a little faster. Lxde seems to fit more on the screen than gnome-shell, for me at least.

    sudo apt-get install lxde
    clear && echo paste url and press enter; read paste; (youtube-dl $paste) | zenity --progress --title="" --text "Downloading, please wait" --auto-close --pulsate && ans=$(zenity --file-selection); gnome-terminal -x mplayer "$ans"

This might be a starting point: Gnome 3 Massive Title Bar.
    Live long and prosper.
And use lotsa Linux, BSD, and Emacs.

I'm still working on it, but I found that reducing the font sizes will make a noticeable difference. Also, I downloaded and set up the GreyRevenge theme.

You can also use this extension which removes the window border from maximized windows.

Another option you might want to give a try:

Adwaita Improved: Reduced Padding For Adwaita Combo Boxes / Nautilus Breadcrumbs [GNOME 3]
    GNOME 3: Adwaita Improved

Although, I believe some of the changes used here did reached the official Adwaita release.
    Live long and prosper.
And use lotsa Linux, BSD, and Emacs.
