[12.04] Error opening sound device 0 on boot.

    Hello folks,

my 12.04 x64 VM has issues with sound whenever I start it. As soon as the OS gets to the login screen, the following message is displayed in VMware Player:

[msg.sound.badwaveopen] Error opening sound device 0:
A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system.
    [msg.pciSound.HostOpenDspChannelFailed] Sound will be disconnected.

The only way to make this work, as far as I can tell, is to get past the login screen, and then go to the VM settings and check Virtual Machine Settings -> Sound Card -> Connected again. This time it will work and stay turned on, whereas doing it anytime before completing login will not work.

Is there a better way? I didn't have this issue on another machine, not sure what's so different this time.

    Thanks!
