HOWTO: Send and Receive Hotmail through Evolution

I've had Hotmail in my Outlook Express for years. Now it works great in Evolution, thanks.

As has been stated here and in the news, Microsoft has recently been enabling POP for free customers, starting last month. This information is not even on the Hotmail web site yet.

It's not that the information in this thread has been incorrect; it's that the changes with Hotmail just happened. Anyone that didn't pick up on that didn't read this thread very carefully, and probably still won't be able to connect due to lack of reading comprehension.

Hey guys just a heads up. I tried this method today (19/03/2009) and it does not work. I get an error message after I enter my password saying "You need to pay money to get this service" so what I gather from the error is that to have your Hotmail emails coming into Evolution you need to pay Microsoft. Just another reason to choose Linux

Thanks for advice. Would you give us specific instructions on implementing Hotmail settings in Evolution?

I'm asking because POP3 is working fine for me, but SMTP isn't working. I'd like to know exact configurations for following options:

• Secure connection
• Authentication type
• username (full or just login)

I'm using server smtp.live.com:587. Tried port 25 too.

It all works PERFECTLY! Many many thanks fibrewire, what I did was change from encryption SSL to TSL in the and it all worked perfectly.

hi, i use the tutorial that's in page 1 (the first one), and I got only this error when i try to download my mail from hotmail:

"-ERR unable to find folder inbox on remote server"

i belive it's because of POP and i yet cannt find a way to put hotmail to work in EVOLUTION.

i try to find pop3.com and fail.

please help and sorry if this inst the first something like this happens
