GRUB fails to install, again

Maybe an uninitialized variable in GRUB leads to random failures to install? Or could there be some QEMU fault (did this in a VM)? It was a basic near default install. I chose UTC time zone and use whole disk w/o LVM.

Where are you aiming grub at, are you using the something else option and making sure it is the mbr?

Is it a ext4 partitioning setup?

I have not used qemu, but I don't think it is for full installs, not sure though, I use oracles virtualbox.

There was no option to "aim". It's wherever the installer does it. The filesystem is whatever the installer chooses when the default "use whole disk" is chosen (I selected the one without LVM).

It has worked many times before. See my update in my original post. It seems to be downloading grub packages, getting bad ones, and of course the installer cannot install the bootloader in place if the package isn't installed.

It appears to be using ext4.

It is working now. It failed three times in a row before this latest test. It would be nice if someone knew if this was really a bad package file in the repository that was subsequently fixed.
