    Odd USB speed comparisons

I have two portable computers, a 2 year old HP Paviilion Entertainment PC and a 2 year old Acer Aspire One Netbook.

Both are loaded with the latest 12.04 Ubuntu OS.

Strangely, using hdparm -t and testing 4 different USB memory sticks all four showed faster transfer rates on the small Netbook that on my HP with AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual-Core QL-65 × 2.

    Anyone any comments re this.

Do they have the same type of hdd? There are different transfer speeds for laptop hdds and desktop hdds.

Not sure why the internal HDs would make a difference but the Nerbook has a solid state and the laptop a conventional HD. I know SSDs are supposed to be quick but my one is slower than the conventional HD 53MB per second compared to 35MB per second.
