    Can't Patch Oblivion

I'm running Ubuntu Precise, 64 bit desktop.
I have an Nvidia GT 530 with 1G RAM on board.
    System has 6 G RAM.
    CPU is core i5-2400.

I've just installed PlayonLinux (version 4.0.14-1) via Synaptic. This also auto-installed Wine version 1.5.5.

Then I installed Oblivion (vanilla) using PlayonLinux. The install shows as version 1.1.425. This process also auto-installed Wine version 1.3.29.

The game seemed to install OK. I only looked at the opening sequence up to the character creation screen. I didn't actually try to play.

I remembered patching the game on Windows, so I thought that should be the next step.

But I'm having some problems applying the 1.2.0416 patch.

I downloaded the patch from Bethesda's site and ran it. It looks like Wine handled the install at this point. But this gave me a couple of errors:

"Patch Warning: missing or invalid registry/INI entry".
    After clicking OK, I see:
"Patch warning: Old file does not exist". After a 2nd OK, I get:
"Patch error". And it closes. Unpatched.

I'm not sure what might be "missing" or "invalid" OR what "old file" refers to.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might fix this?

    Re: Can't Patch Oblivion

No one can tell me what these errors mean?

Is there a database of errors for wine or playonlinux that I can check?

After many hours of reading all I've gained is a headache!
