Question Good place to buy a Linux-libre Laptop in the UK?

Where can you get Linux compatible laptops in the UK?
Ideally I would want one that works well with linux-libre. If it supported a free and open BIOS that would be wonderful.

Novatech are a great value shop for computers in the UK, and they help out if you want to try a GNU/Linux distribution on it before you buy. Unfortunately, they are not specifically aiming at supporting GNU/Linux, though.

Here, here and here is what looks good at the moment.

Here is another site where you can greatly configure your PC, if you know what you are doing and can select software freedom friendly hardware. To benefit from this site fully, you really need to be aware of the various features of the all the different hardware available, and its requirements. One nice thing that they can do there is overclock the system for you and even its memory, keeping the system fully stable at the same time. It is aimed at overclockers.

The following shop is really excellent but not yet fully established in the UK. It is due to start dispatching from London soon, as it has a warehouse there. You are will be able to shop from its USA website and get prices listed for shipping from the UK. They actually ship world wide. What I really like about this company, apart from the great value systems it builds, is that it is totally committed to supporting free software. With any system you buy at that shop you can be sure that it will run on free software, without the need for proprietary drivers. You will never have any headaches with GNU/Linux at this place. Also, buy buying from the link below, which includes libre, the company will make a 25% donation of the profits to the free software project Trisquel, which is based on Ubuntu but uses only free software, and the linux-libre kernel! This company really is a great part of the free software ecosystem.

Though I started this looking for a laptop, I really only need to use the portability of the laptop once or twice. It will basically just sit on my desk for years, so I might very well be better off getting a box. Two companies that might be worth looking at are:

I have found some stores which are endorsed by the Free Software Foundation. (Endorsement doesn't mean that they receive any money from the FSF.)

These outlets are committed to support of free software. ThinkPenguin is also endorsed by the FSF.
