    Not as sharp as Windows?

Hello, I first noticed this issue on Windows a year or more back:

When I upgraded from FF 3.6 to FF 4.0 the fonts were kind of blurred and not as sharp.

But in Ubuntu I find this to be considerably worse, especially throughout the OS, but also in FF 11 or whatever is installed (both latest in W7 and Ubuntu 12.04)

Everything in the OS seems sharper in Windows 7, and slightly smaller. I run both OS in the same resoultion 1920x1080, same machine same screen, and it just doesn't seem right.

To my eye it feels like Ubuntu is running at lower res, and the fonts are messed up.

Well, you should check the resolution if you think it is less.

But, if it is the same, the clearness of the fonts come down to the video drivers -- and if you have the only drivers available, then you're stuck.
    Ubuntu 20.04, Mint 19.10; MS Win10 Pro.

Font rendering is often in the eye of the beholder. That said, Ubuntu and Windows do take different approaches. You aren't the only person who characterizes Ubuntu as fuzzy.

If your monitor or laptop has a sharpness setting, adjust it. The last time I needed to run Windows, the font display seemed awful to me. Way too sharp. I adjusted my monitor's sharpness setting to the point individual pixels in characters weren't visible.

I use the ATI Drivers from the additional drivers option.
