    If you boot to this you have booted to the command line with the liveCD.

    ubuntu@ubuntu: ~$

    So the issues are all with video and video display.

    When I entered jockey-text -l, I didn't get a drive suggestion it says says segmentation fault (core dumped)

    Your Dell supposedly has this which is an early version of Intels video chip.
    Intel GMA 900 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0

    And normally the Intel chips work. But some require this:
    i915.modeset=1
