Change right click drop down behavior?

Whenever I right click things in ubuntu(12.04) I sometimes let go of right click while hovering over one of the options, this selects the item.... which is not normal right click behavior(coming from windows/mac)
is there anyways to disable this "feature" so the "mouse up" event does not select anything? and forcing the user to left click the option?

I am using gnome3, not sure if that makes a difference, also mouse is set to default right handed operation.

Re: help, annoying right click drop down behavior?

This was brought up several years ago, and there were no suggested workarounds or fixes, sorry.

Right click once only and let go the button. This has been normal for me for ages.
