11.10 How to remove cinnamon and use Unity

Today I installed Cinnamon 1.4 but when I log in to it I can't see any panels, just my background image. Can you tell me how to log in to Unity using the terminal(root) and how to remove Cinnamon?

You can't. What you did was install Mint's new release which is a different distro then Ubuntu with the Unity desktop. You will need to reinstall Ubuntu from the CD/DVD. I take it you installed Mint (Cinnamon 1.4) for a CD?
If you still want to get Mint going you might try starting in recovery mode and run a fix from the prompt.
Edit: I am sorry, I was wrong. I see there is a way to run Cinnamon in Ubuntu. When you boot before you log in you can switch to Unity. Just click on the Ubuntu logo and switch desktops.
    Look at this link. http://www.howtogeek.com/103691/inst...top-on-ubuntu/

Run the following command in terminal,
    Code:
    sudo apt-get remove cinnamon
If there are any dependancies left over just run,
    Code:
    sudo apt-get autoremove
(You can just run it even if your not sure, it won't damage your system or remove anything that is needed)

EDIT: Oh if you are using Linux Mint you first need to run the following in terminal FIRST,
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install unity
(DO THIS FIRST IF YOU ARE USING MINT)
Disregard this part if you are running Ubuntu.

I didn't install Mint, I installed Ubuntu 11.10, but I wanted to try Cinnamon desktop environment. It's my fault that I forgot to disable autologin, if I can enable it I could easly switch to Unity

the problem is when I select to boot from command line(root) and type those commands it says to me that Ubuntu can't lock var/cache/apt

To disable auto login in a virtual console, you first press Ctrl+Alt+F2. This will take you to a virtual console. Log in to it. Next you want to disable auto login in the lightdm configuration file. So type in the following,
    Code:
    sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
Press down to move down the document. You should see something like this,
    Code:
    [SeatDefaults]
    autologin-guest=false
    autologin-user=username
    autologin-user-timeout=0
    autologin-session=lightdm-autologin
    greeter-session=unity-greeter
    user-session=ubuntu
Put a # next to each one that says autologin.
Next press Ctrl+X to exit nano and when it asks to save press S. Now type in,
    Code:
    sudo shutdown -r now
This will restart and get you to the lightdm login screen.
