    bios update

Hi, just loaded ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my old Dell inspiron 6000 laptop, it runs and looks great.
I would like to update the Dell Bios. I have downloaded the bios exe file, in the past i would have copied the exe file to a bootable floopy disc and run from bootup.
Please can any one give me instructions how to do it from ubuntu.
    Kindest Regards

you would do it the same way you use to . You need to make a bootable dos floppy if that machine has a floppy drive, if not make a boot able dos cd rom and install it from there
    Dell instructions here:
    http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/...erId=R109329#1

follow the ones for Dos install.
Here is an article that tells you how to make the dos disk from linux.http://tuxtweaks.com/2009/05/create-...buntu-freedos/ it uses free dos but think it will work ok.
here one more link that may be of help : http://www.meta.net.nz/~daniel/blog/...k-under-linux/
    Good luck.

    Many Thanks for your help.
Tried running the bios exe. from a bootable CD , but bios flash program tells me that the bios exe file cannot run from a protected environment, then asks me to press any key to exit. Dont quite Know what this means.

Unless you are adding or installing new (latest) hardware I don't think you need a Bios Update. Contact Dell for more support.

Fantab makes an excellent point. If there are no benefits to updating don't bother.
