Black screen after login

My little cousin who's new to linux was playing around with the compiz settings on my account on my laptop, and I have honestly no idea what settings he changed, but whenever I log in all I get is a black screen and my mouse. I can get into the terminal via ctrl+alt+fx but no idea where to go from there. Could I restore my compiz settings from somewhere?

I have no idea what to do
