Angry Installed ubuntu-desktop with apt-get, having trouble logging in

    Hey everyone,

I'm relatively new to the linux platform and have been learning as I go. I setup a 12.04 server setup on my personal computer and recently wanted to add a GUI to it just to be able to surf the web and whatnot.

Using apt-get, I install ubuntu-desktop just to get started. It installed correctly as far as I could tell (did not hang on any given point and seemed to complete with no issues). I am now trying to login with my username but I can't. It accepts the password and then goes immediately to some command line (can't really tell what it is because it isn't on/up long enough) then restarts the GUI back to the login screen. I have multiple users setup and have tried logging in to different users with the same result. The only user that works is the guest account.

    Please help!

PS. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but for some reason it doesn't full uninstall and reinstall.

It would be a better idea to just install ubuntu desktop off the ISO if you really want a GUI.

You can always add server components to it.
