    Question Emdash and Endash!

How can I type Emdash and Endash when I have Ubuntu (11.10) installed in my computer?
Please give the answer here directly (like Press Ctrl Shift U and then press Alt something).

    – U+2013 (as in ctrl+shift+u, 2013, space/enter)
    — U+2014 (as in ctrl+shift+u, 2014, space/enter)

you should have char map program installed (gucharmap in terminal if you can't find it in gui) where you can look for any char you want.

Ctrl-shift-U and then the unicode codepoint of the character you want (e.g, 2014 for emdash) should work, unless something has changed between 10.04 and 11.10.

It doesn't work in every program, though.

    Re: Emdash and Endash!

    Method One

    For emdash:
Hold CTRL+SHIFT+U and type 2014 then release CTRL+SHFT+U

    For endash:
Hold CTRL+SHIFT+U and type 2013 then release CTRL+SHFT+U

    Method Two

Go to System Settings > Keyboard > Layout Settings > Options > Compose key position and choose a key for your compose key. Then:

    For emdash:
    COMPOSE - - -

    For endash:
    COMPOSE - - .

talk about unwieldy - 4 keys at once o.O? you can press ctrl+shift+u to get u and then comfortably type the code and confirm it with space/enter

I never use it myself, I was just quoting the official Ubuntu documentation.
