Gnome 3.4: smooth/kinetic/inertial scrolling with a mouse?

I believe the driver understands touchpad and mouse inputs as being different, so it could indeed work with one and not with another. And because their hardware is very distinguished - while the mouse scrollwheel is sort of a gear with breaks between each step, the touchpad scroll is continuous and truely smooth -, even if the driver allowed smooth scrolling from mouse input, the hardware wouldn't follow, delivering a non satisfactory experience. But I'm not sure about this because I don't know much about hardware, this is just a hypothesis.

Maybe you're right I remember having "kinetic scrolling" with a mouse in Unity 2D, but it didn't use GTK, so maybe GTK can't do it. But it shows that it's technically possible to have a nice kinetic scrolling with a mouse, so hopefully sooner or later it will be possible in GTK as well...

Nup. It only works with the laptop thingy multi touch gesture thingy and touch screens. It's made for touch screens.

Btw - I remember I had a mouse once the had the option to turn off the 'clicking' of the mousewheel.

I think it was a Logitech something...
