[12.04]Login screen is just black with a loading cursor

After upgrading from 11.10, now when it boot, after showing the logo nvidia, then just a black screen with a loading cursor. I appreciate for any solutions. The VGA is Geforce 7000.

do you know which Nvidia card you have?
Some of them have problems in 12.04 but fix is on the way.
for the time being try this boot to a terminal and type:
(boot to failsafe mode)

sudo apt-get purge nvidia

reboot and try again.

There is something wrong with your graphics card driver, try to find drivers for it and install via Terminal.

But the black screen is still there.

Thanks for your solution. Sadly, the problem is still unsolved. I think that solution is really useful anyway.
