Oops. That is quite a limitation. Perhaps Ubuntu forums can consider signing on with either a username and/or the logon email address. That way the second option can safely subsume the limitation of the forum till the point they are able to build over the limitation.

I do not understand the point you are trying to make. It is a standard feature of vbulletin that only admins can change usernames. This is to prevent abuse, which would undoubtedly occur were it to be allowed. I've checked in phpbb, another very popular forum software, and users are unable to change their usernames in that as well. True also for the default settings in Wordpress (blogging) and Drupal (content management) - only admins can change usernames.
