    Unhappy 12.04 upgrade issues - python-uno conflicts with libreoffice-core

    Hello,

I upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 a week. During the upgrade, there were some failures around libreoffice upgrade. Since then, looks like "The package system is broken". Everytime I try to install latest updates, I get the following message:

    Code:
    The package system is broken

Check if you are using third party repositories. If so disable them, since they are a common source of problems.

I am going to apologized upfront if this is noobish...

I've found where this is supposedly fixed via launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ce/+bug/969707

but, how do I get the fixed version?

    Re: 12.04 upgrade issues - python-uno conflicts with libreoffice-core

Ok, I'm not sure what part was the key, but here's what I did to fix it.

    Code:
    sudo rm /var/cache/apt/*
    sudo apt-get clean
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get -f upgrade
It failed again. Then I ran the "Syaptic Package Manager" gui and it showed I had 11 broken packages. I completely removed libreoffice. Then closed the package manager gui.

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install libreoffice
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    It successfully moved on...

    Re: 12.04 upgrade issues - python-uno conflicts with libreoffice-core

Good for you Dirkomatic! But, I am still not able to fix this . I tried removing libreoffice using the ubuntu software center, and then commandline, but it does not let me remove it!

    Code:
    sudo apt-get remove libreoffice-core
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libreoffice-base-core : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-calc : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-draw : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-emailmerge : Depends: libreoffice-core but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-gnome : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-gtk : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-impress : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-math : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-style-human : Depends: libreoffice-core but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-style-tango : Depends: libreoffice-core but it is not going to be installed
libreoffice-writer : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
mythes-en-us : Depends: libreoffice-core but it is not going to be installed or
openoffice.org-core (>= 1.9) but it is not installable or
language-support-writing-en but it is not installable
python-uno : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.4.4-0ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
You mention "Synaptic Package Manager" - are you certain that is what you used? I do not have Synaptic Package Manager for a long time now, I think it got replaced by the ubuntu software center...

definitely was Synaptic Package Manager. If I search under the Unity dash it appears if I search for "package"...

    Re: 12.04 upgrade issues - python-uno conflicts with libreoffice-core

ok managed to fix it. synaptic manager was the key. But anyone else in the same situation who had not previously installed synaptic (like me) would've realised that Synaptic could not be installed via the normal channels because of the unmet dependencies. So what I eventually did was download the synaptic.deb file from here https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise.../0.75.9ubuntu1
then install it using sudo dpkg -i synaptic_0.75.9ubuntu1_i386.deb then it could be used. (you may also need to install some other dependencies to properly install it. I had to install libept. You do this the same way, follow the links for the missing package on the page above and install it using the same command)

Open Synaptic go to broken packages and completely remove all the libreoffice stuff. Then it should be fixed.

    Hope this helps
