The new chipset option is available within the "Configure & Buy" section. Namely:
2nd Generation Intel Core i5-2450M Processor
( 2.50GHz 3MB L3 Cache - 2 Cores plus Hyperthreading )
3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor
( 2.30GHz 6MB L3 Cache - 4 Cores plus Hyperthreading )
That appears to be the only difference (3rd generation == Ivy Bridge), and it's available now.
How is the graphics performance on Ivy Bridge? Does everything work out of the box like the external VGA port?
Scroll thru this site and look at the openbenchmarking link. He has several reviews, tests & comparisons of Ivy Bridge.

If I chose the 3rd gen i7 would I get the intel hd 4000 GPU? It is not clear from the system76 site.
any idea on the maximum external monitor resolution available with this chipset?
Tests on battery life improvement?
Also heard that Ivy runs a bit hotter than Sandy...
i don't think that is physically possible given equivalent heat syncs and ventalation
the ivy bridge uses less power, less power = less heat
unless you are comparing a low end sandy to a high end ivy that may be different since the high end CPUs use more power then there low end counterparts
** i have not looked at this in detail this is general knowledge i have on the top of my head
Laptop: ASUS A54C-NB91 (Storage: WD3200BEKT + MKNSSDCR60GB-DX); Desktop: Custom Build - Images included; rPi Server

Yup Ivy does run hotter but it seems only when overclocked. Since overclocking is not a normal use case for laptops, I am not worried about it. If I have to upgrade my desktop, I may have to give it some thought though.
