I don't think my laptop is booting faster. It add around 1-2 sec because it adds some "work" between grub and real ubuntu boot. I don't care much about it, I won't die for some seconds, but I cannot understand why I cannot go back without UEFI...

Did you ever find a solution? I am in the same boat, same laptop, trying to do the same thing.
I guess I could always put /boot on the HD and / on the iSSD...
