need help to complete booting after installing

Dear all, I just tried to install Ubuntu 5.04, (had the CD about 6 years, and finally decided to go Linux). After loading from CD, the system indicated that it would reboot to complete install. This began and continued until a message came up indicating that I got a new mail.
Please advise how to continue at that.

5.04 isnt supported any more. download the newest 12.04 and burn to disk or thumb drive and try that. Ubuntu has come a long ways since 5.04

Don't use version 5.04.

That version ran out in October 2006 and as such it no longer receives any security updates plus all of the included software is very out of date.

I suggest you download the latest version and try installing that instead.

5.04?!! As mentioned, trash that and install 10.04 LTS (still a current long-term release with one year to go) or 12.04 LTS (the new long-term release with five years to go). 5.04 is dead in the water, my friend.
