    tracker-miner-fs resource hog

    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU
    Ubuntu: 12.04

The tracker-miner-fs consumes a lot of resources. It beats the disk to death and causes the computer to swap about 20 minutes after boot. I can watch the memory consumption via top and it eats it up a prodigious rate.

What is tracker used for these days? If it is still just for Nautilus, then I am happy to disable it. However, I get the impression from past postings that it is used for much more in Ubuntu these days.

Any suggestions on what to do with tracker? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I completely removed all tracker packages that were installed. Problem fixed.
