    can't figure out sound/alsa problems

    It started out arbitrary loss ofsound in Ubuntu 10.10 on my hp-g7-1070us. I tried to add a line to specify my model to a conf file with no luck. So then I found a script to upgrade my ALSA that failed. Now Sound settings no longer recognizes my sound card and I have no sound whatsoever. Not sure what I should do but I definitely don't want to upgrade to 12.04 unless i have to.
