rooting my android phone
So, I got this no-contract LG Optimus Q Android phone at Walmart. I am instantly fascinated (my first smartphone), but immensely annoyed with all of the trachphone crapware that runs in the background. I have no idea of my way around Android (and suspect that I am locked out at the hardware level). So, apparently, in order for the great purging to commence, I must go through some arcane procedure known coloquially as "rooting" (apparently, an android geek is a type of javelina). Unfortunately, instructions that I have found online say things like "then launch the xyz.exe file" or "unzip the abc.zip file and then open the C:\somefolder" (backslashes; aaaahh!). In other words, apparently Android geeks don't really know how to use a computer, and so the instructions are just useless to me.
Help.
How can I root my LG Optimus Q from Ubuntu Lucid?
Why is there something rather than nothing?
