Re: Netgear WNDA 3100 v2 wireless adapter -- How to install?

There are two ways to install ndiswrapper if you don't have internet connectivity. The first and easiest is to get out the install CD with which you installed Ubuntu. Drop the CD in the tray and navigate to pool > main > n > ndiswrapper. Right-click both ndiswrapper packages and select 'Open with Ubuntu Software Center' and install the packages.

The other way is to go here and search for ndiswrapper-utils and ndiswrapper-common appropriate to your Ubuntu version; quantal, precice, oneric, etc., and appropriate to your architecture; 32- or 64-bit. Find out here:
    Code:
    lsb_release -d
    arch
Download the packages on some connected computer and transfer them on a USB key or similar to the desktop of your Ubuntu machine. Then open a terminal and do:
    Code:
    cd Desktop
    sudo dpkg -i ndis*.deb
    http://packages.ubuntu.com/

After you have finished installing ndiswrapper, post back your progress and we'll be happy to help.

    Hello,

Apologies for the late reply. Family.

Ok, I installed the common ndiswrapper file with no problem through the terminal.

Went to install the file bcmn43xx64.sys and i received this error:

dpkg-deb error: 'bcmn43xx64.sys' is not a debian format archive

Failing miserably to install this USB wifi adapter

You need to be installing the .inf file; the .sys will take care of itself:

    Code:
    sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmn43xx64.inf
You're getting there; please be patient.

    Please try again.

    Hello,

I tried to install the .inf file and i got this error:

Error: unable to find a version of ndiswrapper !

I have however successfully installed ndiswrapper-common_1.58-0ubuntu1_all.deb and ubuntu says i have in the software centre.

Please show us the exact result of these commands from the terminal:
    Code:
    ndiswrapper -v
    sudo dpkg -s ndiswrapper-common | grep Status
    sudo dpkg -s ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 | grep Status
    ndiswrapper -l
    Thanks.

Glad you got things sorted, however for those who prefer a graphical method, install the following 5 ndiswrapper packages via synaptic as indicated in the attachment.

Then browse to your respective .inf file - if you don't have them to hand - here is where I posted them:

Re: Netgear WNDA 3100 v2 wireless adapter -- How to install?

Thanks for the helpful thread so far. I got up to the drive install and it says its there. However when i use iwconfig, I get
    Code:
    zack-All-Series Broadcom_bcm43xx_USB_32_64bit_v2 # iwconfigeth0 no wireless extensions.

    lo no wireless extensions.
Any idea what I might be missing? I'm using the exact same adapter as marianlibrarian. This is my first go with linux so I would appreciate as explicit directions as possible. FYI I'm on Mint 15 if that makes a difference.

    Thanks,
    Zack

What do these diagnostics tell us?
    Code:
    dmesg | grep ndis
    ndiswrapper -l
    uname -r
    arch

Re: Netgear WNDA 3100 v2 wireless adapter -- How to install?

I just finished reading this entire thread. Can anyone, preferably chili555, confirm or deny the ability for WPA2-PSK on the Netgear WNDA 3100 v2 wireless adapter? I have followed the instructions and can see my network and scan and all that, but it always fails to connect after prompting for the password. All other devices on my wireless network are connected. The network is an 802.11n, but iwconfig displays 802.11g. My txpower was 40 something but I changed it to 15 as suggested with no change in results. (It actually shows 16 after the change, as opposed to 15)
