I'm having a trouble with Ubuntu's USB drivers.

I recently bought a 10 meter USB 2.0 extension cord from Plugable which uses the Terminus Technology default USB drivers. When I plug it into my system and run lsusb, I can see the Terminus Technology hub in the list of usb devices on my system (Ubuntu 12.10, 64-bit). However, if I plug anything into the extension cable, it doesn't show up in the list at all. Further, the usb drivers then crash and even if I unplug this cable, I am unable to plug anything else into my computer. Flash drives and other devices don't work anymore until I restart. My USB mouse and keyboard still do work, though.

I've already sent a support request to the cable's manufacturer, and the cable is supposed to work on linux. The cable works on Windows, so it's not a defective cable either. I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with Ubuntu's default USB drivers, or if anyone had any suggestions on how to fix this.
