That's a pretty vague question, can you be more specific?

In general an Ubuntu machine can open most files created on a Windows machine and will communicate with them over a network, but won't run the same software.

Ubuntu can read/write NTFS filesystems -- the one used by recent Windows versions.

Using Wine, and its variants, it can run SOME MS Windows apps, but they have to be reinstalled in the Ubuntu partition, they can't be run from windows.
