    I just signed up here because of this very issue. A user on Ask Ubuntu had a problem that I had the answer to, so I tried to be helpful and send him in the right direction. Rather than post the entire answer, I pointed to the link with the details. Shortly after, a moderator demoted my post to a comment (which effectively hid it from other users) because it wasn't technically an answer.

    As far as I'm concerned, help is help. Maybe this is why it's so hard to get an answer there. I checked the users area and they have this big, snobby hierarchy of lower class and upper class users. Not my cup of joe. I think I'll like it here.

    Hi, please look at http://meta.askubuntu.com/questions/...nks-in-answers. This policy isn't restricted to Ask Ubuntu but is followed for most Stack Exchange sites, AFAIK.
    Users can easily damage their systems by using sudo su if they aren't experienced enough.

    Everywhere has their way of doing things - one of ours is to close threads people have bumped after a year or more
