whats the best cheap webcam that supports ubuntu 11.10 ? im useing a dell 1.6 ghz laptop with 1.2 gig of memory. any suggustions

When looking to purchase a webcam for use with Ubuntu, you should look for a UVC compatible camera. The Linux-UVC project has a good list of UVC compatible webcams. The list is pretty good, but I'm not for sure what your definition of cheap is, maybe $30 or it might be $100.

if you live near a Walmart they often carry Logitech , I use a 250 model.

With linux you have to be careful and get a webcam with UVC support.

I'm using a MICROSOFT Lifecam HD-6000 on 11.10
$20 on eBay.
It's for laptops, but I stuck it onto the desktop monitor with a small angle bracket
