    ATI Radeon, S-video to TV resolution problem

    Hello,

    I use Ubuntu 10.04. I am trying to connect my ATI Radeon to an old CRT TV via S-video. However the image is bigger than the screen. When I change the resolution image gets distorted. Is there any way to define a custom resolution?

    Noticed a lot of refresh out-of-sync errors in your log, and no indication of your monitor's make, model, week of manufacture, etc. from its EDID getting polled. Are you using a KVM switch on the monitor or even a DVI-to-VGA adapter?

    The reason I ask is because KVM switches/hubs and older DVI-to-VGA adapters often conflict with the DDC signal, and thus cause automatic EDID probing of your monitor's modes and refresh rates to fail. Furthermore, when you're using DVI-to-VGA adapters, gravity and the heavy weight of your monitor's cables puts far more downward pressure on the outputs of your video card until eventually either the adapter or the DVI output of the graphics card deteriorates.

    In short, you want to try eliminating as many middle men between your monitor and any VGA or DVI outputs on your graphics card as possible. Taking the KVM switch out of the mix, replacing the DVI-to-VGA adapter with a newer one, or using a DVI cable instead of VGA (if your monitor has DVI output) often times solves many problems.

    Actually there is nothing in between. I connected my CRT television with an S video cable. S video out to S video in of the television.

    There is an overscan problem. It seems like graphics card does not recognize the television. I have an older card which is also ATI, it works perfectly with the same TV.

    ATI Catalyst also does not support, also there is no property drivers for this model.

    I am stuck! Any ideas?
