    Re: Install Google Earth

Okay, my terminal screen popped up and it went through the install process and finished. Now I can't find it or anything. Is it supposed to run automatically? Am I supposed to click on it or do another intall?

I'm having a headache trying to figure out ubuntu, I think

    1. Open up a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal)
    2. Type in the following:

    Code:
    wget http://dl.google.com/earth/GE4/GoogleEarthLinux.bin
    sh GoogleEarthLinux.bin
The rest of the install is self explanatory, have fun!
When I type the command in the terminal I get the following. I also did a Google download for Linux but it wants an application to open it. I am new to Linux and would appreciate any help.

    Re: Install Google Earth

I'm thinking that this tutorial is too out of date to be relevant now. It was made in 2006 and the link is non-functioning.

    Re: Install Google Earth

You can install it from Synaptics... You might have to enable restricted sources in your repositories.

If you have it installed but don't know how to run it, just type "googleearth" in terminal (you have to create a shortcut manually)

If you can start it but it just displays a night sky with stars, you might have the same bug as me... Try running it as root ("sudo googleearth"in terminal)... It works for me, but it really isn't the optimal solution!

Whats surprising to see is that GE installed via repos in Jaunty won't run with latest nvidia driver from nvidia's site installed via the .sh. It would segfault on launch. You have to install the nvidia driver via repository to get it to work.

    Re: Install Google Earth

I got Google Earth downloaded and it is sitting on Desktop.

Do not know how to install it, nothing I have tried does anything useful.

    I have 64 bit OS.
Will this be the cause of the problem?
