Does Linux try supporting any languages like Delphi(or pascal)

Well, I'm a c language programmer ( or learner I can say ), I have seen someone using Delphi but would like to make software for Linux. I have come up with an idea that if gcc and some other IDE can support compiling Delphi that could be very good for developing application in Linux Desktop environment due to the high development efficiency of Delphi language.

Is anyone agree with my opinion ?

Under Linux, there is FreePascal and Lazarus IDE. Lazarus able to convert projects Delphi to Lazarus project, and compile this. But - usually have to rewrite many parts of the project. So it may be easier to write with 0 for a new under lazarus, than to convert Delphi.

Borland used to try an push Delphi under Linux (Kylix), but they were not very successful. Check what CynicRus said, but I don't see Delphi picking up under Linux (or Windows for that matter).

So Borland had made their approach to graft Delphi to Linux ?

But I think Borland's compiler will less likely to become a built-in compiler, that would just make compiling harder for user to choose different compiler for different code, I wonder if it is possible that gcc team could make Delphi support. It is somehow helpful for a shorter developing time and also for a user -- less compiling time.

Ubuntu has the Free Pascal Compiler (fcp) and Lazarus IDE in the repos.

I think you guys are good at programming, Can you please share is there any tricks in programming applications for Linux ?

By the way, Does Delphi take its advantage in Linux ?
