Ubuntu 12.04 Virtual Box Seamless mode?

After finding it too hard to part completely with Ubuntu, I plan to run it in Windows 7 as a Virtual Machine while still using it as a primary operation point for browsing and chatting rather than using Windows for that. Windows is for Games, and Netflix or other various activities that require windows(restarting and booting out is too big of a hassle, and far too annoying). With that being said, is it possible to boot Ubuntu 12.04 in VirtualBox with Seamless mode after enabling Guest Additions?

    Thanks.

It is possible, but I prefer full screen mode myself, mainly because I had some GUI problems with seamless mode one or two years ago.

You can always try it, maybe those issues are solved now.

Doesn't seem to work. Tried it. Menu bar and launcher don't show up in 12.04.

try unity 2D, see if it helps. or gnome fallback.
Or use another DE like XFCE.

    i too prefer fullscreen mode.
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?

    You could also try VMware.

Harder to configure, but Unity mode (Not meaning "Unity" interface) is awesome, I find it even more usefull than the mode of VirtualBox.

I like that you can drag for example a shortcut of PhotoShop, and then place it in your Unity Launcher!

Cool Re: Ubuntu 12.04 Virtual Box Seamless mode?

I am currently having an issue with this.

I am running Windows 7 Pro X64 - upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 and now seamless doesn't work as it should.

The Linux desktop background appears; over the top of my windows icons etc, where as previously, I would have the menu bar at the top and the unity launcher on top of my Windows environment.

This is now no more use than windowed mode.

I have updated Ubuntu and I have Vbox 4.14; I have reinstalled Guest additions after upgrading both Ubuntu and Vbox.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Ubuntu 12.04 Virtual Box Seamless mode?

Try disabling mouse integration. I just tested that but it made the mouse pointer invisible. Otherwise, it works as expected.

You can also use the unity key to trigger the show. Or you could turn autohide off under System Settings -> Appearance -> [Behavior tab].

    Hope this helps!
