    Lenovo ThinkVision lt1421

    hey everyone. Noob here!
Anyway, I hope this is the right forum. I was looking at getting a Lenovo ThinkVision lt1421 Usb LCD monitor as a portable monitor. I want something I can use for programming at school and such. I am fairly new to using linux, and I am not sure if anyone has experimented with this. It says it comes with drivers for redhat 6 but I am fairly sure that those won't work on 11.10 which is what I am using. I am curious if the monitor even needs driver? Has anyone experimented with this?
If it won't work does anyone have a portable screen that they use with their computer?
    Thank you in advance.

It uses Display Link. In theory it should work.

Did you get one of these? Did it work with Ubuntu? A friend of mine has a USB powered monitor, a Philips one I think, and when I plugged it into my Lenovo X301 running Ubuntu 12.04 I got a green screen, no image, and the monitor wasn't detected by Ubuntu, so it didn't work at all. But this Lenovo model is really attractive, carrying a second monitor to use with a laptop sounds very appealing.

    Re: Lenovo ThinkVision lt1421

I have just bought one of these mainly for use with a windows 7 laptop and was hoping I could get it to work with my RHEL work laptop and then an Ubuntu desktop if needed.

Win7 works great but so far can't get anything but a blank screen on RHEL so I tried with my Ubuntu 12.04 desktop to see if I could get any success so I then might have a better idea of how to get RHEL working.

I still have a few things to try but so far I am seeing some strange results. When connected, my main screen shows the usual desktop and the LT1421 shows an Ubuntu logo but the LT1421 is not shown in display settings so I can't add it as a second monitor. However, if I switch to console mode, the console is shown on the LT1421 and my main monitor goes blank. The console looks ok until text scrolling occurs and the text becomes a bit garbled.

If anyone has any ideas on getting this working properly, it would be greatly appreciated. I guess it might need me to post the xorg.conf.

Also, if I do get it working, I will let you know

Great to hear that there is at least some hope, thanks seezlar. You're getting better than a green screen at least!
