    Ubuntu GNOME window manager problems

So I'm using a more or less fresh install of 10.04 and since I've played around with different window managers I haven't been able to figure out how to set things back to their default value. Basically I don't have X, minimize, or maximize buttons available any more and all my windowed applications all default to a File, Edit, View style option. I can't move these windows around.

Also I don't know if this relates to this post or not but when I log in with Xubuntu as my session choice my system seems to try to load it but goes right back to the login screen after a couple seconds without loading the actual environment.

Re: Ubuntu GNOME window manager problems

UPDATE: Fail-safe GNOME seems to bring back the original functionality. Unfortunately Xubuntu does not work still.
