Avast! antivirus -How to get register code into the program

Hallo
I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and downloaded Avast! Antivirus for Workstation. Then I extracted it. After that I went with the cd command into the directory desktop and installed it with sudo install-desktop-entries.sh install. The installation worked but I cannot open the program in order to enter the registeration code without which the program will not work. I have little experience with Ubuntu, but some years ago I had some experience with Suse Linux KDE version. Can someone help me.

open a terminal and enter

avastgui

that should open the GUI

The problem is when I do that I get the following message: (avastgui:2755)) Gtk-WARNING **: unable to locate theme engine in module_path: Pixmap" and this four times in a sequence.
Furthermore there is an error message. An error message occured in avast! engine. Invalid argument.

When I click details I see: Deleted stale lock file

Thank you very much, but avastgui alone seems not to help.

I have had to remove avast from my laptop in the last few days it was constantly crashing my pc.
Sorry I can't help as I'm a newbie too, good look getting it to work

Thank you very much for your help. But I got tired of Avast and dumped it. I turned to avg and it works fine without any problems. I know that program from those times I still used Suse. The only disadvantage is that it is completely command-based but it is simple.

Might be worthwhile just dropping an email to Avast to let them know that this particular bug is turning a lot of people away from their product.
