Hi I'm new for Ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu on a 4 years old Dell. I have a strange sound problem I could not find in the forum. If I play a sound, like internet radio via Chrome browser or an MP3 via banshee the sound is terrible. The sound plays a few seconds fine ans then suddenly skips for a very short period. The problem increases when the processor is busy (e.g by starting up another program) but if chrome is the only application running processor load is 40% ans still the problem appears.

I installed a better sound mixer, tried to adapt the file etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf with fix=1 and fix=2

I turned of the pulse audio timer scheduling by editing the file
/etc/pulse/default.pa

but nothing solved the problem. Who can help?

BTW With windows XP the sound works fine
