desktop cube crashed in ubuntu 11.10

i used desktop cube for about a month and a couple of days earlier it crashed. meaning i activate it every time but it doesn't respond. ccsm shows it active, works, but doesn't give me the effect. now even the desktop switcher doesn't work as it used to.
it seems to have reverted to the most basic form.
plz help.

A side note about the blog post's method of opening a terminal session:
If you try opening a virtual terminal with ctrl-alt-F1 or such, to get back to your desktop press ctrl-alt-F7.
