Re: Who is trying Fedora 17 alpha?

Planning to jump in at beta

My hardware doesn't allow me to run gnome 3.x properly in virtual machines, so it needs a harddrive install for me to get the most out of it, and both my testing slots are prebooked this week!

Quite looking forward to seeing the new features; really hoping for some more modification of the default gnome interface over 16, but we'll see!

The new feature I'm most looking forward to is the name!

Going to give it a shot. I really enjoy Fedora. Its very fast and smooth. Not to mention it helps to prime me for knowledge of RedHat.

I am always glad to see Fedora KDE distro's and such. Fedora keeps things alive.

Does anyone know how to install Broadcom drivers in Fedora (17 alpha)--let me know, in mean time I search.

Re: Who is trying Fedora 17 alpha?

Quick bit of advice - if you're going to try out F17 Alpha, please do read the Common Bugs page, it's not one of those Alphas which seem to work almost perfectly already, there are some fairly large bugs and it's really a good idea to be aware of 'em going in. Especially if you're reading these forums - one of the known bugs is that the installer crashes if you try to install to a machine which has another OS with a /etc/fstab file but no /etc/redhat-release file, which includes Ubuntu. So I suspect a lot of you might run into that one! The page explains how to work around that and other bugs. So read it.

gnu/mirow: you're very unlikely to see much OOTB customization of GNOME in Fedora, for a few reasons - most importantly a) Fedora's fairly strict policy of staying close to upstream and b) the fact that most of Fedora's desktop team consists of people who are also upstream GNOME developers.

    AdamWill--nice to see you hear.

Yup, I fell for that and my installer crashed; grub-error> so could not boot at all.

I will wait for the later release (not brave to fix right now).

The XInput 2.2 multitouch features/GTK3.4 multitouch don't seem to be in this alpha. too early yet anyway. As soon as it's in then I'm getting rid of Ice Cream Sandwich and switching to Fedora 17 on my Viewpad 10. Sounds so awesome for x86 Tablets!
