Which Slackware based distro to download

    Hi,

I am looking for a Slackware based distro to download and learn somethig about it. I have decided to download Puppy Linux from a list of many Slackware based distros on this Wiki page here.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...lackware-based

Is my choice ok? Please suggest me something. I have not been able to find average time gap between two Puppy releases, what is the average suppot period for any given Puppy release? Thanks a lot.

Personally I would skip the derivatives and just try Slackware. If you don't want to do that then SalixOS, Vector, Absolute, and Zenwalk are all good.

A second vote here for trying Slackware itself rather than than any derivatives. 13.37 has been out for a while and comes in either 32bit or 64bit variations:

    32bit: ftp://ftp.slackware.no/slackware/sla...nstall-dvd.iso
    64bit: ftp://ftp.slackware.no/slackware/sla...nstall-dvd.iso
You think that's air you're breathing now?

running slackware 13.37-current here with KDE 4.8

    Very stable

See no reason to choose a slack based, why not just slackware ?

    Cheers

Slackware is one of the distros that I haven't tested yet... How difficult is the system to manage? Is it a rolling release? Big or small repos? Is there a focus on cutting edge or stability?

    everything answered here http://www.slackware.com/

easy to manage (if you understand linux, it is not for newbies)

not rolling release, they release when they feel like it

cutting edge if you use current, stable if you dont

I use 13.37 current and running on latest hardware with latest apps.

    All good in the hood

I responded to another person in another thread who wanted to know a little bit about Slackware, you might find it useful.

Thanks, yours seems to be a good suggestion, I will try to implement it.

Thanks to all the others who have responded.
