I use Mint 13 with E17, powertop, jupiter to reduce powerusage. I turn off AMD card, but the cover around the "qwertasdfyxcv" keys's are very hot.

If someone have Dell Vostro 3550 whith same configuration, can check this with his/her machine?
I have also Vostro 3550 but with i5. Left side of keyboard is always really hot since I can remember (compare to W7). It's strange to me but I got used to. If anybody have idea why it happens...

Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

    Hi all,

I am looking for advice with my HP ProBook 4730s, Ubuntu 12.04 on board:

    test@test:/etc/X11$ fglrxinfo
    display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 6400M Series
OpenGL version string: 4.2.11631 Compatibility Profile Context

I sucessfully install drivers thanks to this great guide (THANK YOU Alexislavie!), but it looks liek my FPS is quite low:

    test@test:~$ glxgears
    6203 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1240.517 FPS
    6212 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1242.257 FPS
    5937 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1187.067 FPS
    7657 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1531.345 FPS
    6841 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1368.017 FPS
    6730 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1345.840 FPS
    6697 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1339.275 FPS
    6776 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1355.193 FPS

(main card, I suppose it can make it bether with its 1024 MB memory..)

I know glxgears are not accurate, but main problem is low performance in 3D games. Do you have any tip, what can I try? Thank you!

Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

BTW after running "sudo aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf" and reboot:

    test@test:~$ glxgears
    23508 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4701.493 FPS
    24152 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4830.324 FPS
    24307 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4861.223 FPS
    24318 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4863.460 FPS
    24188 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4837.522 FPS
    24354 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4870.620 FPS
    24492 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4898.369 FPS
    24304 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4860.660 FPS
    24431 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4886.159 FPS
    13802 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2760.086 FPS
    6325 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1264.916 FPS
    6250 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1249.514 FPS
    6395 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1278.837 FPS
    6509 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1301.701 FPS
    6249 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1249.638 FPS
    6271 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1254.141 FPS
    6289 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1257.666 FPS
    6271 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1254.126 FPS
    6280 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1255.886 FPS
    6261 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1251.836 FPS
    6325 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1264.916 FPS

    Why?

EDIT: It is still the same - after reboot fps about 5k, but after while 1k. Interesting thing:

    aticonfig --pplib-cmd "get activity"

    1) when FPS about 5k:

Current Activity is Core Clock: 750MHZ
    Memory Clock: 900MHZ

    VDDC: 1100
    Activity: 78 percent
    Performance Level: 2
    Bus Speed: 5000
    Bus Lanes: 16
    Maximum Bus Lanes: 16

    2) when FPS about 1k:

Current Activity is Core Clock: 750MHZ
    Memory Clock: 900MHZ

    VDDC: 1100
    Activity: 22 percent
    Performance Level: 2
    Bus Speed: 5000
    Bus Lanes: 16
    Maximum Bus Lanes: 16

...for the first time I thought, that it is some problem with power profile. But it looks like card in not running in low-power mode - clocks are still at 750-900 mhz. But why is fps and "activity" getting low?

Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

Thanks a lot for this guide! It actually worked! But there are some problems... I tried to switch the VGA to intel and after the reboot, the desktop won't load. It takes me to the login screen and after I enter the password, nothing comes... Just the wallpaper!

Another problem is the heat... The ATI GPU gets a bit hot (not too much but higher than in windows.) Any way to fix it?

Im using a HP DV6-6011tx laptop with ATI Radeon HD 6770 M GPU.

Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works !

I decided to install in partition a linux distro, but with KDE as DM.

I've an HP Pavilion g6 1111el with intel/AMD graphic cards system, and this tutorial (that i followed in all 3 steps) work perfectly with ubuntu 12.04 unity 3d and gnome shell.

But with kubuntu as DM i must apply also the second step for direct rendering on the integrated card?

Once i did it but i had a startup error with kubuntu 12.04 (black screen)!

Thanks for help, you are great!

Please forgive the blind idiot (Me)... I didn't followed the instructions to fix direct rendering... Now it works! Thanks a lot for the guide!
