Just wondering if you guys are still meeting on a monthly basis. I went to your meeting about three years ago and was interested in coming back. Are you still meeting at the HC library?

Are you still meeting at the HC library? The Open Source Maryland group meets the third Thursday of the month at the Howard County Library central branch. This group grew from members of the Ubuntu, is not Linux centric, but most of us are Linux users. The Ubuntu Maryland Loco team is dormant at this time due to no one actively leading the team. If you, or someone else, is interested in taking the reins of the team feel free to contact me directly and I will work with you to transition things over. If you are interested in Linux User Groups in the area, some that I know of off hand are: Columba Area LUG http://calug.org Baltimore LUG http://baltolug.com (next meeting is Tuesday the 21st) Annapolis LUG http://annapolislinux.org Northern Virginia LUG http://novalug.org

Shame that's to far for me. That's the columbia area I think. I'll keep looking for a Linux group closer to Perryhall Maryland.

I wasn't aware that there was a Maryland Ubuntu user's group until today. I learned about it after e-mailing Canonical customer support and asking about local Ubuntu. I recently started a group called Linux Neighbors on Meetup.com http://www.meetup.com/Linux-Neighbors We're in Montgomery County. The whole purpose is to give Linux the advantage of face-to-face user help. (Thereby, we may successfully overcome some of the hesitancy or discomfort of new users, and this should help us to keep PC's from being needlessly "upgraded," or rather exchanged for faster PC's running the latest proprietary OS.) Our first meeting is at 3:30 pm this Saturday, the first of September. I'm going to advocate that we recommend Ubuntu and focus our newbie user-help efforts on it. I'd also like us to discuss a mechanism by which new members agree to be an installation assistant and recruiter for Linux Neighbors. Perhaps Linux Neighbors could become a sub-group or project of the Maryland Ubuntu Team. Also, I've just learned of and joined a brand new LUG, it's Montgomery County Linux Users' Group, or MoCoLUG, and it is hosted as a group on yahoo.com. MoCoLUG hasn't met yet, but it's an interesting development. To join MoCoLUG, check out Yahoo Groups or e-mail the administrator at mocolug@yahoogroups.com.
