    that step never worked for me lots of guides say to install that but there i never found a matching kernel

    It was hard to find a matching kernel module..if you run backported kernel you won't.

    The only package I have installed from ubuntu-audio-devs ppa is the "snd-hda-tool".

    If you need a later alsa kernel module you are much better off using a backported kernel package (as you have).

    speaking of kernel backports any idea if kernel 3.3 works on lucid?
