Sony Vaio / Atheros AR9285 suddenly keeps dropping Wifi connection

Good day! Wonder if someone could spare some time to give me a hand here please. I have used this forum often to find solutions but this time have been unable to find a solution which works for me and is doing my head in.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop which I have Ubuntu 11.10 installed. I have a Wireless Router in our lounge (54g Auto / WEP) and a Wireless Repeater in our bedroom (which is the reason for WEP as it does not support WPA)

I have had this laptop for 2 months now and it has occasionally battled to connect via WiFi but it usually does. Today it has been mental ... I am on another laptop both in the lounge and bedroom and on my mobile connected to wifi and both have no problems.

I can occasionally connect today but if it does, it is not because of anything I have tried and usually only lasts for a few minutes, if that.

I have seen a lot of posts pointing to this as the solution but it does not work for me:

    Code:
    echo "blacklist acer_wmi" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
    echo "options ath9k nohwcrypt=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf
Below is a bit of info requested by others helping out on similar cases. I am posting this via an old Acer laptop running Ubuntu 11.10. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    sudo lshw -C network
    Code:

    Hi,

which network do you want to connect to? "SKY14093" shows up twice, so remove one of these in your router interface if you created two of them. I also recommend using WPA2-AES encryption if possible.
