Bad Video refresh rate on Server 11.10 install

Hello all. I am trying a server 11.10 fresh install. So no fancy gui to worry about.
The install works through all the screens and finally reboots but the video setup
is obviously wrong since the monitor only shows "out of range".
I tried reinstalling using an option of various vga= options and once using a nosetmode
(I think) but with no success. I have seen many solutions on the net but most of them
show a solution using the gui. I don't have one. It seems to be a real catch 22 here.

Does any one have a suggestion?

    Thanks.

I have the same issue... the reason i wanted to install server was because i didnt need all the fancy (and complicated) stuff that comes with a gui. Is there a way to force a text based install on the server edition??
